Programs That Reach Out to Incarcerated Dads and Their Children–(with Videos)
Our partnership with Forgiven Ministry resulted in the “One Day with God Camp” for children of incarcerated fathers, at Darrington penitentiary. Our success in 2012 and 2013 led to the third event in 2014.
Following Angola’s lead, The Heart of Texas Foundation received permission from the Texas Department of Criminal Justice to begin the formation of Malachi Dads chapters in Texas prisons. We began with Coffield Unit and then Darrington. Malachi Dads was originally born at the Angola State penitentiary in Louisiana– and adopted by The Heart of Texas Foundation to bring into Texas prisons to help reconcile fathers to their children and families. It is our goal to help all Texas prisons begin their own chapters of Malachi Dads, and with it a open-year curriculum on fatherhood and fathering. The Heart of Texas Foundation has partnered with TDCJ (Texas Department of Criminal Justice) and the international children’s ministry AWANA to help make this a reality in Texas.
Our Darrington (prison) Seminary Graduates will be transferred as “Field Ministers” to other state prisons and will be able to help organize and facilitate new Malachi Dads chapters in the Texas prisons to which they are sent. The Heart of Texas Foundation, its volunteers and supporters, are now bringing to Darrington Penitentiary its annual “Day with Dad at Darrington” event.
